Billy Coffey inks another top five at Paradise Speedway.

Linwood, NY – June 9, 2008

Coming off of a feature win the night before at Limerock Speedway, Billy Coffey was very optimistic that tonight could be that night he wins his first feature of 2008 at Paradise Speedway.

Sometimes lady luck just isn’t on your side. Coffey drew a not so great pill which placed him starting seventh in his heat. Before the heat race the team went to work on the car to make a few changes. Right from the get go Coffey was on a mission. Billy bolted to the outside and went three wide down the back chute and kept the hammer down and blasted by four cars on the outside exiting turn four. With so much momentum, Coffey stayed high and took the runner up spot entering turn one and set his sights on the leader. Again lady luck dealt Coffey a tough one. Billy noticed that the water temperature was rapidly climbing. Coffey got to the leader’s tail tank but began to get a little nervous when the water temp hit 150 and began to back pedal a little trying to save the motor. Coffey then dropped to third which was where he finished in the heat.

The good news was the high temperature never hurt the engine, but the team was faced with trying to figure out how they were going to keep the engine cool without compromising horsepower. The team made a bunch of changes hoping the engine would stay cool. “It’ll either make the twenty laps or it’s gonna blow apart” stated Coffey.

Coffey started fifth in the feature and when the green flag flew, he thought he would do the same as he did in the heat race, blast the cushion and blow by everyone. Well, it didn’t work this time as the car didn’t stick and Coffey dropped back to 6th. The car was really loose and Billy spent a few laps making cockpit adjustment trying to make the car better. Coffey was able to pick off two spots, but really needed a caution to catch the top three as they had checked out on the field. The caution just never came and Billy had to settle for fourth at the stripe.

“This place is big and fast, and it’s really hard to make up spots once everyone gets going. If you have problems, the only way you are going to catch the field is if the guys are missing their marks or if the caution comes out. We were off and we just never caught a break” Coffey related after the feature event.

Other big news is that Billy Coffey and the BTK Motorsports team have their car and engines for sale with a big announcement to be made once the equipment sells. Any one interested in any of the equipment please contact Billy at billy@billythekidcoffey.com or see Billy at the track.
