Coffey make first 600 Micro appearance of the season.

Linwood, NY – July 27, 2008

After much anticipation Billy Coffey finally made his first 600 Micro Sprint start of the season this past weekend. “We have put many hours into this car and waited an extra week to make sure we had all our ducks in a row.” commented the excited Coffey.

Coffey and the team had made it out to Paradise Speedway to run the car for the first time and was only to get the heat race in as weather moved into the area cancelling the night and rescheduling the feature to the next week.

Finally, some decent weather came for race night as Coffey was ready for the double features and to get some seat time in his new mount. Billy started in the 11th position for the make-up feature. Coffey was able to bring the car home in 8th place despite having the wrong gearing in the car and the chain skipping. The crew went to work on the car after the feature to get it ready for the heat races.

Coffey started 4th in his heat race and advanced one position to 3rd place, then the rain rolled in. After a 45 minute rain delay, the cars took to the track with Coffey resuming his 3rd place position and brought the car home in 3rd. “I was really starting to get the feel for the car but I am still suffering with a chain skipping problem and a shifting issue. Hopefully we can have this all fixed for the feature.” relayed Coffey.

Coffey was slotted 8th on the grid for the feature but due to cars not making roll call, this bumped Billy up to 6th place. Right from the get go Coffey was battling a tight condition and lost a bunch of positions as he scrambled to adjust his shocks to try and loosen the car up. Billy was able to get the car drivable but slid back to 10th spot and had a lot of ground to make up. Coffey caught a break when the caution flew which bunched the field up and allowed Coffey to adjust a little more. On the restart Coffey completed 1 more lap then the chain let go resulting in a DNF in 17th place.

“I am a little bummed that we didn’t have a better result the first night out with the car. I am working with my shock package trying to find out where I need to be and I am having a wicked shifting problem. I am not able to speed shift like the other guys and I am getting killed on the starts, but we’ll head back to the shop and work on the car and we’ll be back again next week” stated Coffey.
