“The Kid” has a rough couple of weeks.

Linwood, NY – Sept 10, 2008

After making the long haul down to Pennsylvania and not having the run they would have like, Billy Coffey and crew packed up and headed home to ready themselves for the coming special events at Limerock Speedway and Genesee Speedway.

The first stop was the Friday night special at Limerock Speedway where Billy was ready to take in some action at a track he was very familiar with. Billy drew a high number and started near the rear of his heat race. He was able to pick off a couple of cars and brought the car home in 4th place. The crew went to work on the car to ready it for the feature event but that evil lady Mother Nature rolled in and washed out the remainder of the night’s activities.

Next stop was the Saturday night special at Genesee Speedway where they were hosting the Empire State Modified Midget Invitational. With 43 cars in the pits ready for battle Billy took to the track for time trials and timed 12th quick. By timing 12th that put Billy outside pole in the 6th heat which is just the shot Billy needed but the only drawback was he was starting beside the ultra quick Jim Radney. The two charged hard into turn 1 and blasted down the back chute with Coffey taking the lead as he flatfooted turn 3 and 4 and was on cruise control on his way to the heat win.

For the redraw Billy drew the 5th starting spot and was set to do battle and made the necessary changes to the car for the feature. However, this was when things started to go bad. One thing Billy didn’t realize is that at Genesee Speedway they water the track between features as they have a little bit of dust problem. Coffey was not set-up for this and had no time to make the required changes to the car for the wet slippery surface. Coffey was not happy with the track surface when they decided to throw the green and lost 5 spots in the first lap as his car was slipping and sliding across the track. Coffey and Radney were battling for the 9th spot once Billy started to settle in then lady luck turned the other way and Coffey’s mount died on the track. While sitting there Billy noticed that the kill switch was in the off position. Billy fired it back up and rejoined the tail of the field. On the restart Billy felt the motor skipping and missing and retired pit side for the remainder of the evening. Later it was found that one of the injectors was stuck open and was flooding the motor with fuel. “It just hasn’t been our week” said Coffey. “We had a great start to the night and it just went to the crapper. It’s just very disappointing to have things go so well then go so bad in the wink of an eye”

Coffey and the BTK Motorsports Team will be taking the week off then be back in action September 20th at Paradise Speedway.
