Back in Black – Billy Coffey runs 5th in return to 600 Micro Sprints.

Linwood, NY – October 6, 2009

Is it the beginning or is it the end. Well it’s the beginning for Billy Coffey. Coffey has sat out virtually the whole 2009 racing season and made his return to the 600 Micro scene at Paradise Speedway this past weekend.

Billy and his dad Butch finished the car up mid week after spending countless hours going over the car and getting it ready to race. Billy finished 3rd in his heat which qualified him 12th for the 50 lap dual segment feature.

On the start Billy got trapped behind a couple of cars that came together entering turn one which resulted in Billy dropping back to 18th. Battling a bit of a chain skipping problem Billy was forced to finesse the throttle to keep the chain from skipping worse than it already was. Billy had worked his way up to 8th when he lost power on the back stretch bringing out the caution. Billy was able to re-fire the car and restart at the tail of the field. Billy was still able to pass a few cars before the halfway fuel break. The chain skipping problem was found but couldn’t be fixed as no work was allowed on the cars at the fuel break. A stone had come up and bent the chain guide. Billy would just have to make do with what he had.

During the second 25 lap session, Billy immediately started passing cars on the bottom with the car sticking like it was on a string tied to a post. Billy was able to work his way up to the 5th spot at the checkers.

“I really believe we had a top 3 car tonight but the chain skipping problem for 48 laps kinda put a hamper on that but we’ll take a top 5 finish on our first night out” stated Coffey after the 50 lap event.

BTK Motorsports next event will be this Saturday October 10th at Paradise Speedway.
